State House sources have reported that the newly appointed Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) of the United Nations Mission on Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), Ismail Ould Cheik Ahmed arrived in Sierra Leone today to meet with President Ernest Bai Koroma on the situation in the country.
“This is no time to be complacent because we must break the chain of transmission,” he is reported to have told government officials in Freetown today.
“We have to work harder and ensure no mistakes are made and make sure we reach zero new infection,” he said, adding that there is also need to strengthen the health sector.
He pledged his commitment in providing technical support to treatment centres, labs and effective coordination, and to ensure the health care delivery system is also strengthened in the country.
