The World Health Organization has said in its latest situation report that a total of 838 healthcare workers are known to have contracted Ebola in West Africa as of January 4, 2015, and 495 of these have died.
The WHO said it is leading a special meeting today on the access and financing of Ebola vaccines. Officials say they are reviewing ongoing drug trials and discuss plans for future vaccine implementation.
News from the Vatican state that it has reportedly sent about US$3.5 million to help communities affected by the ongoing Ebola epidemic in the region.
