Ebola Death Toll Exceeds 8,500 in West Africa

34 new Ebola infections and 28 deaths reported by health officials in Sierra Leone on Monday January 5, 2015.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said the Ebola death toll in West Africa has exceeded 8,500 people.

Over 8,600 people are infected by Ebola in Sierra Leone, according to official reports.

Liberian government officials said schools in Liberia will soon be re-opened because progress is being made against the virus in the country.

“We have been recording not more than 5 infections daily in Liberia for several weeks now,” a Liberian official told the BBC.
