The outgoing head of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), Anthony Banbury has said that global efforts might help to end Ebola this year.
“I believe we will end Ebola in 2015,” he told journalists in Accra, Ghana today.
But he warned the end is “not close” and “we are engaged in an epic battle”.
The UN has named a new head of UNMEER today to replace Banbury.
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania, the new head of the UN Ebola Mission, said Ebola patients need to drink water and litres of Oral Rehydration Solution every day.
“If you do not have Oral Rehydration Salt at home, you can make your own. In onr litre of clean water, add six teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt,” he said.
In a related development, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has disclosed that schools in Liberia will re-open on February 2, 2015.
Authorities said the schools were closed to stop spread of the Ebola virus.
Ebola has been declining in the country but transmission is still intense in some regions, according to official reports.
