WHO Says Ebola Crisis May Last Another Year

Ebola crisis is likely to last until the end of 2015, the World Health
Organization (WHO) has said.

A scientist who is credited to have discovered the virus in the 1970s is quoted to have said that preparations must be made  for a long fight against the epidemic.

Peter Piot told the BBC today that there is need to be ready for a sustained effort for the rest of 2015.

“Developing a vaccine would be more complicated,” he said, adding that it must be done so that when there is another epidemic or maybe when this epidemic drags on for a long time,  a vaccine will be readily available.

Peter Piot has just returned from Sierra Leone on an assesment of the situation in West Africa.

He currently heads the London School of Hygiene in the United Kingdom.
